Famed writer/director of the Penitentiary movies, Jamaa Fanaka, is hosting a workshop in Austin this Thursday. Fanaka is one of the important black filmmakers that came out of UCLA film school in the seventies. Released in 1979, Penitentiary was the third feature film that Fanaka completed while attending UCLA. It became the biggest-grossing independent film release that year. Best of luck, Mr. Fanaka and event organizer, Third Cousins Media.
