Unless you’ve been living under a rock, you know (and perhaps worship) Beyonce. Singer, songwriter, actress, dancer — she’s more than just a threat on stage. After a particularly long ‘Yonce jam session after her out-of-this-world performance at the VMAs, we realized that even though many of her lyrics deal with the themes of love, relationships and empowerment, that there are actually a lot of good advice for event planners.

Don’t believe us? Let us take a tour through some of her biggest hits so you can channel your own inner Sasha Fierce.

****Also, please note, some of these videos might be NSFW, so we’ve paraphrased the important stuff in case your office isn’t ready for this jelly…

1. ‘A little sweat never hurt nobody’ – Get Me Bodied (B’Day)

Want results? You gotta work. Specifically, you need to sweat. Event planning might look like all fun and games but having all of the elements fall into place just perfectly AND have the room filled with all of the right people requires some serious effort.

2. ‘I don’t think you’re ready for this jelly,’ Bootylicious (Survivor)

(* technically a Destiny’s Child hit, but we think this still counts)

Any event planner knows that things never quite go as planned. Draft up a crisis management plan and distribute to all stakeholders so if things happen to go awry day-of, you’ll all be on the same page. If you have a backup plan, and a backup plan for when your backup plan fails, you’ll ALWAYS be ready for this jelly.

3. ‘I order yours tomorrow look at the time I saved you / Mama let me upgrade you,’ – Upgrade U (B Day)

Embrace technology, people. It’s gonna save you time (and sweat). Whether it’s using an event app instead of paper brochures, using the Eventbrite app to scan people in instead of a crossing names off of a list, technology is here to stay and it’s going to make your life infinitely easier as a planner! (Pssst…we have lots of partners who can help with your upgrades. Check out our Directory!)

4. ‘There’s ups and downs in this love / Got a lot to learn in this love / through the good and bad,’  – Countdown (4)

Even if you’ve only planned one event, you know this is true. There are ups and downs in this business, and you’ve gotta roll with the punches if you plan on sticking around for awhile. You’re going to have events that are huge wins, and you’re going to have events that are not huge wins, but you’ll learn from both. Take the good with the bad and remember that everything turns out ok in the end, especially if you created that crisis management plan 😉

5. ‘In the darkest night hour / I’ll search through the crowd / your face is all that I see…’  – XO (BEYONCE)

Following suit from #4, when you’re having a ‘down’ moment, take a moment to remember why you do what you do. Recall the smiles you helped create, the praise-filled emails that have landed in your inbox, and the accolades you’ve received from your colleagues and power through!

6. ‘Who run the world?’ – Run the World (4)

This is self-explanatory, right? Who run the world? Event planners, duh.
