"More Common Than You Think, More Serious Than You Know."
The Vasculitis Foundation (VF) supports and empowers those diagnosed with one in the family of rare life-threatening autoimmune diseases through education, awareness and research. The VF is committed to improving the lives of all those living with vasculitis by encouraging them to seek expert medical care for diagnosis and treatment, offering educational conferences and local support groups, funding medical research to find better treatments and a cure and providing funds to train tomorrow's experts through a fellowship program.
Vasculitis is inflammation of the body's blood vessels. There are many types of vasculitis. Some forms can be so severe that the tissues and organs supplied by the affected vessels don't get enough blood. This shortage of blood can result in organ and tissue damage, even death.
Though some types of vasculitis are rare, some are much more prevalent. For example, Giant Cell Arteritis (GCA) is seen in the general public as often as Parkinson's Disease for those over 60 years of age, there is much lower awareness about the disease.
It is why vasuclitis is "More Common Than You Think, More Serious Thank You Know."
