John H. Stahl

John began working in historic preservation while attending the University of Utah working on a Fine Arts Degree.

In 1982, John moved to New York City to pursue a career in performing arts. As a side job John started a building restoration company and began restoring historic properties in and around New York City. John was an approved contractor with the New York City Landmark Conservancy specializing in wood window restoration and repair.

Beginning in 1995, John began a long association with This Old House Television Show appearing on several episodes demonstrating wood repair, window restoration, and paint preparation techniques. Recently, John has presented on business topics for painting contractors at the National PDCA convention and has published articles in various trade publications:

John has invented several specialty products for building restoration and repair. In 1996 John retired from full time contracting and began Advanced Repair Technology, Inc. a company specializing in products and training for building restoration, window restoration, and maintenance. John developed the first flexible epoxy wood repair system: Flex-Tec HV and Prim-A-Trate for Advanced Repair Technology, Inc

In 1999, John was awarded a US Patent for a unique weather-stripping system for existing windows.

In 2016, John went back to the lab and re-formulated his original flexible epoxy to take advantage of newer polymer technology and launched Next Generation Systems and Dura-Fix. For more information on Dura-Fix: www.nxtgensys.com
