Drs. Madelyn & Enrico Stazzone
Drs. Enrico & Madelyn Stazzone founded Pediatric Orthopedic Project (better known as POP) in 2012. Dr. Enrico is the lead pediatric orthopedic surgeon while Dr. Madelyn runs the foundation, fundraising and mission trips. Since its inception, POP's efforts have resulted in over 500 FREE orthopedic surgeries in children in the third world, mainly scoliosis corrections. Through yearly surgical mission trips, POP educates local surgeons, nurses and ancillary staff and provides the struggling regional children's hospital with necessary equipment to improve orthopedic care. Each year, POP brings a complete team of medical experts (doctors, nurses, PA's and technologists) as well as all the supplies necessary to an impoverished town in the Dominican Republic and performs surgery on children that would otherwise have no opportunity for correction and who have been ostracized by their community because of their deformities. Most of our patients have scoliosis (curved spines) These surgeries therefore are life changing as they not only impact their physical appearance but allow them a second chance in a society that shuns physical deformity. Our foundation is grass roots and completely volunteer run. That means that no one is salaried and any donation is used entirely for our efforts. That sets us apart from other organizations doing complex spine surgeries in the third world.
