Utah Wind Symphony
The Utah Wind Symphony is unlike any other group currently performing in Utah. This premiere ensemble is a wind and percussion band, reflecting the tradition of wind bands in America. Originally organized by a U of U graduate student and a local high school band director, the UWS now includes a talented mix of professional freelance musicians, music educators, and faculty from 3 of Utah's universities. Also represented in this organization are the nation's finest music institutions, with participating alumni from Julliard and the Manhattan School of Music, as well as graduates from BYU, the University of Utah, Utah State, and Weber State University. The product of this confluence of musical talent promises to result in an ensemble unlike anything else currently happening in Utah.
The Utah Wind Symphony has been selected to play at the 2014 Midwest Clinic in Chicago, Illinois. This is a very exciting opportunity for the Wind Symphony being the only adult band from the U.S. to perform at this years clinic. The wind symphony went through a rigorous audition process consiting of capturing live recordings, creating a cd as well as collecting references and putting together a packet for submission. There are many submissions every year and many are not selected. Most groups try several times before being selected to perform at the clinic. The wind symphony is honored to have been selected and is very excited to represent the great state of Utah at the clinic this December.
