The Friends of "R" House
The Friends of “R” House is a 501(c)(3) public benefit non-profit. As an association, we work alongside the City of Mountain View to promote and support the Rengstorff House, the public's education regarding its history, and the interpretation of the home. Rengstorff House is Mountain View’s oldest historic house (c. 1867) and is one of the finest examples of Victorian Italianate architecture on the West Coast. Today this beautifully restored historic house museum provides the perfect setting for visitors to acquaint themselves with the attributes of the 19th century and early Mountain View.Rengstorff House is located at the beautiful Shoreline at Mountain View, a bird sanctuary and public recreation area. While the House is a wonderful example of architecture in its own right, it is also a prime model of adaptive reuse, serving three purposes: it is a museum, office space for city staff, and a rental venue for events.
During museum off hours, all are welcome to explore the period interiors and the collection via our 3D tour, as well as enjoy a visit to the grounds which remain open to the public during Shoreline open hours. While you're here, you'll have the opportunity to take in the home's architecture, manicured garden, 19th-century replica tank house, vintage windmill, and the natural beauty of the surrounding area.
Interpretive signage is available throughout. Enjoy your visit!
