Mesa College Theatre Company
The Dramatic Arts Program at San Diego Mesa College is a four semester Associate Arts degree program that offers students a unique approach to learning theatre making.
Students learn acting, voice, stage movement, scenic design, lighting design, costume design and construction, make-up, publicity, marketing, and production management. In addition to course work students are cast in mainstage productions and granted the opportunity to stage manage, and design for each production. Students engage in hand-on learning that develops leadership skills, teamwork, and enhances creative thinking through a unique ensemble. The company maintains the highest standards of professionalism and emphasizes mutual respect as a requirement for effective creative collaboration.
Upon completing the program students may transfer to a four year institution to earn a bachelors degree, or pursue work in the industry. Graduates from the program have appeared locally on stage at the La Jolla Playhouse, Cygnet Theatre, The Diversionary Theatre, on Broadway opposite Alan Cummings, Dianne Wiest, America Ferria and more. Others hold crew and technical positions at the Old Globe Theatre, other regional and corporate theatre companies, and have film and television credits in New York and LA.
We welcome In-kind donations, and we also are starting a campaign to establish a small endowment to secure annual scholarships for our drama majors. Please consider making contribution. If you have questions, or would like to speak with a representative from the program, please contact George Ye at gye@sdccd.edu.
