#10 Talk of the Recycling Bioplastics Cluster Talks, organised by European Bioplastics

Join us for the 10th talk in our new Bioplastics Recycling Cluster Talk series of expert-led online talks, focused on Using Spectroscopy for Sorting.

Our speaker, Marina Pellegrino, will report on the state of the art in Hyperspectral Imaging Spectroscopy (HSI). HSI is utilised for the classification and recycling of biobased packaging. The talk will also cover the monitoring device developed in the BioSupPack project.

This event is part of a broader knowledge-sharing initiative by three research and innovation projects funded by the Circular Bio-Based Europe Joint Undertaking: ReBioCycle, MoeBIOS, and PROSPER. These projects aim to develop practical, scalable solutions for bioplastic recycling—from collection to manufacturing new products.

Our expert this time is Marina Pellegrino from IRIS Technology Solutions.

Marina Pellegrino will report on state-of-the-art Hyperspectral Imaging Spectroscopy (HSI) and its applications in the classification and recycling of biobased packaging materials. Drawing on her experience in the BioSupPack project and her work at IRIS Technology Solutions on packaging monitoring, classification, and sorting systems, she will highlight how HSI can support the identification, sorting, and valorisation of biobased materials within circular recycling streams. The talk will also cover the HSI-based monitoring system for biobased packaging developed within the BioSupPack project.

Who should attend?

Researchers and innovators who are working on plastics recycling, circular economy, digital tools in waste management, or sustainable materials, from both the public and private sectors.
