About the Speaker
Louis C Smith, Ph.D., is Professor of Medicine, Emeritus, Baylor College of Medicine, Houston TX. He received his Ph.D. in Biochemistry from the University of Texas, Austin. After 3 years of a post-doctoral fellowship at Massachusetts Institute of Technology, he joined the faculty of Baylor College of Medicine in 1966 and rose to full professor. After 32 years, he retired from medical school and spent 24 years in the biotech industry working on animal and human gene therapy.
After he underwent conventional psychoanalysis in the 1980s, friends in the early 1990s introduced him to the Jung Center of Houston, where he absorbed the core elements of analytical psychology and embarked on a journey of individuation under the instruction and guidance of James Hollis, J. Pitman McGehee and others in the Jung Center programs through their lectures, classes, and books.
On February 3, 2021, he suffered an intercranial stroke and now lives in an Assisted Living community in Austin TX.
His art began with photography in 1962 and incorporated Adobe Photoshop in the early 1990s. The art became a major activity during recovery from the stroke.
