Description:The goal of trauma informed supervision is to reduce secondary traumatic stress through quality supervision.The supervisory relationship is an important tool that fosters resiliency, well-being, compassion, and ultimately positive outcomes for those served. This workshop will explore the supervisory relationship and specific strategies that supervisors and workers can use to promote resiliency.Objectives:As a result of this course, you will be able to:1. Understand the 4 NCTSN Core Competenciesa. Secondary Traumatic Stress in team memberb. Secondary Traumatic Stress in you (supervisors/leaders)c. Emotional sharingd. Supporting team member resilience2. Learn how to incorporate reflection into supervision.3. Instructor: Cheryl Williams-Hecksel, ACSW, LMSWCheryl Williams-Hecksel is on the faculty of the MSU School of Social Work. Cheryl is a Licensed Clinical Social Worker and has been with the School of Social Work since 2006. Prior to joining the faculty at MSU, she has spent more than 30 years in clinical and administrative roles in public and private child welfare and mental health agencies. She is also on the staff of the National Child Welfare Workforce Institute. She is the coordinator of the School’s Evidence Based Trauma Treatment Certificate. Her work includes consultation with child serving agencies around their capacity to trauma informed. She provides frequent professional continuing education related to ethics, supervision and child trauma.
