About this event

Learn how to use the coolest prototyping and customizing tool: the Laser Cutter!

In this class we will cover the operation of our 100 watt CO2 laser cutter. We will go over how the machine works, how to make designs, and how to set it up. Each participant will get their very own class book with instructions and tips, so you can come back and use the laser cutter with confidence.

Once you take this class, you'll be cleared to use our laser cutter (either as a member or with a day pass). This class is also a prerequisite for our monthly Laser Cutting: Beyond The Basics class which features a new project every other month.

More details:

The software we use for designing and preparing code for the laser cutter is called LightBurn.

These are the kinds of materials our laser can cut:

  • ¼” plywood and other thing woods
  • Clear and colored acrylics
  • Cardstock and paper
  • Fabrics
  • EVA Foam
  • Non-PVC plastics

These are materials it can engrave:

  • All of the above
  • Cases for phones or laptops
  • Glass (coated)
  • Rubber (special type for laser engraving)
  • Black-painted metals
