About this event

The course covers basic techniques, allowing beginners to grasp essential skills, while advanced students can delve into more sophisticated insights to enhance their artwork. By the end of the session, each student will have a completed drawing to share and valuable take-away skills to enhance their personal work. A natural item will be provided for inspiration during the class.


The workshop centers on the traditional aspects of illustration, emphasizing the importance of being present in the creative process. This class aims to create a fun, relaxed, and informative environment for drawing enthusiasts, whether they are seasoned professionals or trying illustration for the first time. Over the weekend, participants will be guided through the fundamentals of pencil drawing.

Course Goals:

Learn about and utilize a variety of fine craft pencils as tools for detailed illustration.
Develop advanced skills through a step-by-step, skill-building process, including contour drawing, gesture drawing, and the refined art of creating.
Discover the subtleties of portraying a 3D form, focusing on the contrast of light and shadow.

This class needs a minimum of 3 attendees to run.

Open to ages 18 and up

Instructor: Asia Scudder

Instructor Bio: Asia Scudder, an award-winning artist, discovered her passion for illustration at an early age. With extensive training, she has mastered the art of capturing natural forms through pencil illustration. Her academic background in environmental and wildlife studies merged with her artistic pursuits, fostering a deep understanding of the science behind the intricate forms and functions in nature.

Attendees who are not yet vaccinated against COVID-19 are encouraged to wear a mask and social distance.
