Diversity & Inclusion Fundamentals

Most organizations endorse diversity, and well-meaning people want to work in an environment that is welcoming, fair, and respectful for everyone. Yet our human brains and emotions often lead us to misjudge, exclude, offend, or even discriminate, despite our best intentions. In this highly interactive session, you will explore your own personal identity and experiences of difference, listen to others’ perspectives, and think critically about cultural assumptions and generalizations. You’ll view the acclaimed video, “Ouch! That Stereotype Hurts,” and practice techniques for responding to insensitive comments effectively, without casting shame or blame. You’ll also learn how to address “micro-aggressions” in the workplace. Micro-aggressions are small, subtle comments or behaviors that send a negative message about a historically excluded social group. Taken alone, their impact may be minor; but if not checked, they can build up over time, creating a toxic climate for some individuals or limiting career opportunities.

Program Fee: $145.00. Institutions will be billed for registrants.
