Yes!  All ages are encouraged to participate and share their ideas and wishes for the future of this site.

Will there be other opportunities to share my thoughts about this project?

Yes! We plan on hosting at least one more workshops in the coming months.  Keep an eye out for the event announcements here, or at https://www.fws.gov/refuge/don-edwards-san-francisco-bay/about-us.  You can also email us at Alviso_eec@fws.gov.

When was the existing Environmental Education Center built?

The existing building was built in 1979 and has hosted thousands of programs for students and families for over 40 years.

Where is the "bird house"?

Accepted Answer

The "bird house" is a local nickname for the Environmental Education Center. This nickname comes from our love for and educational programs about birds, and the high perch and views you get from the 3rd floor of the Center.

Why do you think this space should be reimagined and reconstructed?

Accepted Answer

The existing Center has served us well over the last 40 years, but the main building and surrounding public spaces need revitalization and updating. Many modifications are needed. For instance, we would like to make the facility more "green" and provide safe access to people of all abilities.

What does it mean to reimagine the Environmental Education Center?

We desire to improve the public's experience at the Center and ensure that this place remains a community asset for many decades to come. In order to do that we need to hear from you about what you like about the existing place and what ideas you have to make it a more enjoyable place to visit.

Question 7

If this is a public event, why are you asking me to reserve a spot?

Accepted Answer

The capacity of the Mayne School multipurpose room is limited to 250 people.  When you reserve a spot we can better track interest in this project, and if necessary move to a larger capacity venue for the next two public workshops which are planned for late winter/early spring.
