Join artist-activist, Favianna Rodriguez, for a free hands-on art making workshop for children and their families on Saturday, June 22, 2024 to celebrate the beauty of nature and our relationship to trees. Favianna will lead with a short talk about the power of art to transform the imagination and honor local ecosystems. Young participants will be able to create their own set of butterfly wings to celebrate trees as well as the many species that live in trees, including the monarch butterfly.

The monarch butterfly represents the beauty of migration. In her art, Favianna elevates the butterfly as a symbol for the right of all living beings to move freely. “We belong to nature, and nature has no borders. Like the monarch butterfly, human beings cross borders in search of safer habitats. This art workshop celebrates the resiliency, courage, and determination of migrants who come in search of their dreams,” explains Favianna Rodriguez.

Each participant will get to paint their own wearable butterfly wings. Each child can participate with 1 parent. There will be two sessions, one at 10 am and one at 12 pm

Please sign up for one session, reservations required, space is limited.

We'll be kicking off the 2024 Napa StoryWalk at Skyline Wilderness Park on this day as well - join the workshop, visit the StoryWalk display, and enjoy a morning in the park together!
