Program Description:

Do you have difficulty saying "no" ? Do you struggle with the best way to tell people what you want or need? This workshop explores what it means to be assertive, and how to best communicate your needs to others. At the conclusion of this workshop, participants will be able to:

* Recognize and replicate assertive vs. aggressive or passive behaviors

* Utilize techniques to create assertive statements in a wide variety of situations

* Recognize the non-verbal behaviors that can undermine assertive communication

* Understand personal barriers to communicating assertively
Participants will assess their current level of assertiveness, discuss common obstacles to assertive behavior, and learn two models for crafting an assertive statement. In-class exercises will provide the opportunity for attendees to practice what they have learned.

Program Fee: $75.00 Institutions will be billed for registrants.

Presenter: K. Carey Baker, M.Ed., is a consultant specializing in training issues, with particular emphasis on Management Development, Communication and Customer Service. She has over twenty years of experience designing and delivering training programs for the public and private sector, and has worked extensively with colleges and universities. Carey holds an appointment as a Teaching Associate in the Department of Medicine at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University, delivering workshops on a wide range of management topics. She has also served as adjunct faculty in the Communications department at Bryant University.
