Pelham Medical Center wants to support our community by providing education opportunities for healthy living and disease prevention.

Soul food is a term celebrating the ingenuity and skill of enslaved cooks who were able to form a distinctive cuisine despite limited means. Many adaptations to traditional African foods made by necessity during slavery decreased their nutritional value and compromised their inherently nutritious properties. These adaptations started relatively unhealthy dietary patterns which have helped contribute to the development of chronic diseases and decreased life spans in many African Americans.Come learn the history of soul food and find out some ways to continue honoring the African American heritage of traditional soul food dishes while preparing them with healthier ingredients.

As an added bonus, the James Brothers will perform a mini-concert after the presentation from 1 - 1:30 p.m.
