Breaking Up With American Patriarchy: Anna Malaika Tubbs & Savala Nolan

Breaking Up With American Patriarchy: Anna Malaika Tubbs & Savala Nolan

Overview

Black feminists name what patriarchy took from us all & guide women to take it back. Supper, dessert, & real conversation with Bay views.

Anna Malaika Tubbs and Savala Nolan are leading Black feminist public intellectuals of our time.

Anna Malaika Tubbs wrote a book about how the mothers of Malcolm X, Martin Luther King Jr. and James Baldwin shaped their activism. And then she wrote another book teaching women what American patriarchy hid from us, so that we would be able to see it and break free.

Savala Nolan wrote a book, Don’t Let It Get You Down, about living in between race, body, class and being told not to let any of it get to you. Her new one, Good Woman: A Reckoning, is about rejecting being “a good woman” and what became available to her when she stopped. Ms. Magazine named it a Most Anticipated Feminist Book of 2026.

On Monday, November 16, they're in conversation in Sausalito, and you're invited to be in conversation, too.
