OPENING RECEPTION | The Band: From Woodstock to The Last Waltz
Join us for the opening reception of The Band: From Woodstock to The Last Waltz, featuring photographs by Elliott Landy and Larry Hulst.
Be among the first to experience The Band: From Woodstock to The Last Waltz at our opening reception. Enjoy refreshments while exploring the exhibition and seeing photographs of The Band by Elliott Landy and Larry Hulst.
Before there was The Band, Levon Helm, Robbie Robertson, Rick Danko, Richard Manuel and Garth Hudson were Levon and the Hawks, backing Bob Dylan as he moved from folk to electric rock. In Woodstock, they recorded the informal sessions that became known as The Basement Tapes. Their first two albums, Music from Big Pink and The Band, helped redirect rock toward its roots, drawing from country, blues, gospel, folk and early rock and roll.
Elliott Landy photographed The Band as they settled into life around Woodstock, gaining intimate access to the musicians at home, in the landscape and between performances. Larry Hulst’s photographs capture The Band at The Last Waltz, their 1976 farewell concert at San Francisco’s Winterland Ballroom, alongside Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Muddy Waters, Neil Young, Eric Clapton, Van Morrison, and others. The exhibition marks the 50th anniversary of this landmark concert.
