Hosted by Action for Hogshaw to celebrate the launch Mark Cocker's new Book, The Nature of Seeing -Finding Wonder in the Living World
The Nature of Seeing - with author Mark Cocker
Join us in person for an inspiring event with Mark Cocker, the celebrated author who will take you on a journey exploring the wonder of nature and the art of truly seeing it.
On Saturday 26 September at 7pm Action for Hogshaw is holding its first major meeting since its launch in autumn 2025. Part of the evening is a conversation between environmental activist Mark Johnson and author Mark Cocker. His new book The Nature of Seeing is a celebration of the art of paying close attention. The book argues that seeing is a profoundly important and creative act that not only transforms us, but changes the world around us. There can be no better place than Buxton for its national launch, because our region's wonderful wildlife is the substance and setting of the book.
What does it mean to truly see the natural world? Whether it is noticing moonlight across a bedroom floor, or an owl as it hunts, or waxcap fungi that erupt across the fields overnight, Mark Cocker encourages us to reclaim our innate gift for wonder and to see the living world in all its infinite detail and mystery.
Doors open at 6.45pm
Mark Cocker's new book will be available to purchase on the evening. So you can be one of the first people to get your hands on a copy of this beautiful and inspiring book, by our very own local and highly acclaimed author and naturalist.
There will be refreshments for sale during the evening, as well as a selection of nature themed second hand books to buy.
