Overview

Relax with a glass of wine and soup, immersing yourself in poetry as the words lift from the page and dance around the room in candlelight.

Poetry by candlelight gives the stage to poets in an intimate setting as part of our date night series. We have wine, beer, hot soups, and tasty bites to curate an experience unlike any other. Perfect for a self date, romantic date, friend date, or something you don't want to label just yet.

Most of our featured poets have books available to sign, letting you bring a piece of the night home with you.

Poets:

Dr. Darius Phelps (he/him)

Dr. Darius Phelps (he/him) is the author of My God’s Been Silent (Writ Large Press, 2026) and The Holy Ghost Lives In Her Laugh (Kith Books, 2026). A poet before anything else, his work bears witness to grief, faith, and the act of becoming—offering language as a form of liberation and light. Through the lens of poetic inquiry, Dr. Phelps explores how verse can function as pedagogy, healing and survival. Rooted in Black literary traditions and personal testimony, his work has been featured or is forthcoming in Diode,Tupelo Quarterly, Matter Monthly, Een Magazine, School Library Journal, and many more.

Felice Belle

Felice Belle is the author of Viscera (Etruscan Press, 2023). As a poet and playwright, she has performed at the Apollo Theater, Joe’s Pub, TEDWomen, and TEDCity2.0. She is a lecturer in the low-residency MFA program at St. Francis College and Artists Network Director for the global nonprofit Narrative 4.
