48th Annual Big Muddy Film Festival

The historic Varsity Theater, built in 1940, is a performance art venue on The Strip in Downtown Carbondale, Illinois. The Varsity boasts three performance spaces: The Balcony, a 140-seat listening room and performance area, and primary home to our film screenings; the East Theater, seating 150, is a space used primarily for theater along with live events and film; and the Big Room, seating 475, with all-new, state-of-the-art sound and lighting systems designed primarily for music and live events.

<p>The 48th Annual Big Muddy Film Festival returns to Carbondale, showcasing some of the finest works of independent filmmakers and students alike.</p><p>The free, public event remains one of the nation’s oldest film festivals affiliated with a university. BMFF is widely known for presenting a strong blend of documentaries, animation, shorts, super shorts, and features.  </p>
