Despite years of international and bilateral sanctions aimed at curbing North Korea’s missile and nuclear weapons programs, Pyongyang continues improving its intercontinental ballistic missile capability and appears determined to acquire the ability to arm those missiles with nuclear warheads. In 2016 alone, the regime conducted 24 missile tests and two nuclear tests. Last week, Pyongyang test-fired four ballistic missiles, landing three inside Japan’s exclusive economic zone. This salvo is just the latest provocation by a volatile regime equipped with an increasingly sophisticated and powerful arsenal.
On March 20, Hudson Institute will host a timely conversation on the growing threat of North Korea’s ballistic missile and nuclear weapons programs to the Unites States and our East Asian allies. U.S. Representative Joe Wilson, chairman of the House Armed Services Committee Readiness Subcommittee, will join Hudson missile defense and East Asia security experts Rebeccah Heinrichs and Arthur Herman for an in-depth discussion on the status of Pyongyang’s weapons development activities and how the U.S. and our regional allies should respond to bolster their security.
 
Congressman Joe Wilson U.S. Representative from South Carolina’s 2nd District Representative Wilson serves on the Committee on Foreign Affairs and is the chairman of the Armed Services Subcommittee on Readiness. He is the sponsor of House Resolution 92, a bipartisan resolution condemning North Korea’s development of multiple intercontinental ballistic missiles.
 Rebeccah Heinrichs Fellow, Hudson Institute Rebeccah Heinrichs is a fellow at Hudson Institute, where she provides research and analysis on a range of national security issues and specializes in nuclear deterrence, missile defense, and counter-proliferation. Heinrichs was an adviser on military matters and foreign policy to Representative Trent Franks and helped launch the bipartisan Missile Defense Caucus.
 Arthur Herman Senior Fellow, Hudson Institute and author, Douglas MacArthur: American Warrior Arthur Herman is a senior fellow at Hudson Institute and a frequent writer on defense, energy, and technology issues. He is the author of seven books. His most recent work is Douglas MacArthur: American Warrior.
