But what about politics, a sphere in which Asian Americans are mostly ignored as a voting constituency? Are the 3.4 million Indian Americans, who have the highest median income among Asian Americans, ready to mobilize politically? How will this impact the 2016 election cycle?

Congressman Ami Bera of California; Delegate Aruna Miller of Montgomery County, Maryland; and Delegate Dr. Jay Jalisi of Baltimore County, Maryland are all elected officials. Shekar Narsimhan is chairman and founder of the first ever Asian American super <SPAN CLASS="caps" STYLE="margin: 0px; padding: 0px; border: 0px; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: inherit; font-stretch: inherit; line-height: inherit; font-family: inherit; vertical-align: baseline;">PAC, the<SPAN CLASS="caps" STYLE="margin: 0px; padding: 0px; border: 0px; font-style: inherit; font-variant: inherit; font-weight: inherit; font-stretch: inherit; line-height: inherit; font-family: inherit; vertical-align: baseline;">AAPI Victory Fund, which aims to increase Asian American voter-registration and turnout in battleground states. The discussion will be moderated by Hudson Institute Adjunct Fellow Dr. Maina Chawla Singh.

Maina Chawla Singh's doctoral research focused on gender and colonialism, especially the work of missionary women in colonial India, and was published as Gender, Religion, and ‘Heathen Lands’: American Missionary Women in South Asia (1860s–1940s).

He represents the 7th Congressional District of California and serves on the House Committee on Science Space and Technology, the House Committee on Foreign Affairs, and the Congressional Caucus on India and Indian Americans.

He serves on the Environment and Transportation Committee as well as the Judiciary Committee.

He was appointed as Commissioner on the President’s Advisory Commission on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders and is the chairman and founder of the first ever Asian American super PAC, the AAPI Victory Fund.
