Why the U.S. is the Center of Software Innovation: A Discussion with Technology Entrepreneur Alan Dabbiere

While the U.S. dominates few industries, it remains the undisputed center of the global market for software and online services. What accounts for American leadership in software innovation? And how can public policy continue to promote our success? While some theories suggest our legal instruments are responsible, others have pointed to specific economic advantages, as well as investments in higher education and research institutions.
On April 11, to examine these and other explanations for American dominance in this sector, Hudson’s Center for the Economics of the Internet welcomes noted technology entrepreneur Alan Dabbiere. Hudson Institute Senior Fellow and former FCC Commissioner Harold Furchtgott-Roth will moderate the event.
 Alan Dabbiere Chairman, Wandering Wifi and Founder & Former Chairman, AirWatch Alan Dabbiere is a renowned technology entrepreneur with 20 years of experience building leading software companies. He is the chairman of Wandering Wifi and the co-founder and former chairman of AirWatch, the largest provider of enterprise mobility management software in the world. Mr. Dabbiere previously founded founded Manhattan Associates, the world’s leading supply-chain execution software company. In 2015, Mr. Dabbiere was inducted into the Technology Hall of Fame of Georgia for his outstanding contributions to the technology industry.
Harold Furchtgott-Roth Senior Fellow, Hudson Institute Harold Furchtgott-Roth is a senior fellow and the director of the Center for the Economics of the Internet at Hudson Institute. From 1997 through 2001, Mr. Furchtgott-Roth served as a commissioner of the Federal Communications Commission. Before his appointment to the FCC, he was chief economist for the House Committee on Commerce and a principal staff member on the Telecommunications Act of 1996.
