About this event

Zurich Art Walk HOW TO PERFORM? with Marc Bredemeier.

MEETING POINT: Cabaret Voltaire

ROUTE: Cabaret Voltaire → Barbara Seiler Galerie → Schauspielhaus Zürich → Kunsthaus Zürich

My art walk for the Zurich Art Weekend will focus on the multifaceted nature of performance, both in terms of how individuals navigate their roles within society and how societal structures themselves perform within the capitalist framework.

Through thoughtfully curated experiences, participants will be invited to explore the performative aspects of human behaviour, considering how we enact our identities and roles in various social contexts. Additionally, your walk will delve into the ways in which capitalism commodifies performance, often shaping individuals’ self-concepts and driving them to perform within prescribed roles for economic gain.

By engaging with these themes, my art walk will challenge participants to reflect on the relationship between performance and capitalism, and how these dynamics influence our daily lives. Through interactive installations, immersive experiences, and thought-provoking discussions, our walk will serve as a catalyst for deeper understanding and dialogue about the intersections of performance, society, and economics.

Marc Bredemeier combines art, design, mediation within their curation with a focus on performative and community-building aspects. Currently he is enrolled in the MA Art Education, Curatorial Studies at Zürcher Hochschule der Künste (ZHdK) under the direction of Anselm Franke. He worked for institutions such as the Kommunale Galerien Berlin, KW Institute for Contemporary Art, transmediale and Museumsdienst Berlin. One of the motives of his practice is to question processes of (re)production and their (re)presentation. In his own longing for creating inclusive (safer) spaces, the questions arise: What expectations will be taken forward and which hierarchies will emerge, get re-presented or re-produced again? What are we taking with us? Notions of our futures are of great value: what we think today determines how we live tomorrow…
