This virtual training will provide an introduction from Austin Public Health, Child Care Regulation, and the Austin Fire Department on the importance of child care program emergency preparedness and different types of emergency situations, including fire emergencies and evacuations. Attendees will gain practical knowledge on how to prepare emergency plans and sign up for local emergency alerts. After completing the training, attendees will be eligible to attend an in-person tabletop exercise to practice the skills learned in the training.

Training objectives:

  • Learn the importance of emergency preparedness and different types of emergency situations child care providers should prepare for.
  • Learn about the state’s minimum emergency preparedness requirements from Child Care Regulation.
  • Obtain resources to develop and improve emergency plans.
  • Learn about the Warn Central Texas child care emergency alert system and register to receive notifications.
  • Learn the basics around fire emergencies and evacuations from the Austin Fire Department.
  • Discuss the upcoming tabletop training exercise for child care providers to practice implementing their emergency plans.
