Zoo B Que

Founded in 1928, The Washington Park Zoo encompasses 15 acres on a hilly sand dune and is located near the southern shore of beautiful Lake Michigan. The zoo exhibits more than 90 species originating throughout the world. The animals are exhibited in natural settings, surrounded by botanical plantings. Among the exhibits are Bengal tigers, Cotton top tamarins, American alligators, Grizzly bear, Grey kangaroos, Ring-tailed lemurs, River otters, Bald eagles, and more.Some of the other zoo highlights are the Rotary Castle that exhibits some of the cold-blooded creatures including lizards, snakes, and frogs. The Australian Adventure which is a walk through aviary featuring over 250 colourful free flying parakeets and the Red barn exhibit housing the miniature domestic horses, donkeys, pigs, and goats. The zoo also has many unique historical WPA walkways and buildings, including the 70 foot tall observation tower.

This year, Zoo-B-Que will focus on funding an expansion to the Big Cat exhibit.
Join Us For Some Family Fun!
 
Zoo-B-Que is an annual family friendly cookout that takes place at the Washington Park Zoo as a means to fund much needed support for animal care and enclosure expansions.  The event this year will include a wide range of activities which include catering, beverages, door prizes and auctions. 
Participants can also enjoy attractions normally off limits to the general public such as a  behind the scenes look inside the big cat cages, the fallow deer exhibit, the animal care clinic, the zoo's animal dietary needs kitchen, along with access to other closed sectors. Keepers will also bring animals out of their enclosures to join in on the fun including the baby gator and armadillo with special species on display courtesy of Silly Safari. 
If funded, the plan would extend the Bengal Tiger's livable area by about 25 feet while doubling the size of the lion's den.
