Kazım Öz, one of the most prolific independent directors in Turkey, will come to the stage with his new feature film Zer in Toronto.  Gala will be held at Hot Docs Ted Rogers Cinema on 30th Sept, 2018.  After the screening,  there will be Q&A session with Mr. Öz and members of the crew (Türkçesini aşağıda bulabilirsiniz)

 About ZER:  From the award-winning director Kazim Öz, the movie Zer tells the story of Jan who embarks on a journey to find the origins of his grandmother's song to solve the mystery and to embrace his roots. Rumor has it that a young shepherd went to a village in Dersim, the province of Turkey. There, he fell in love with Zer, the daughter of the landlord. However, the landlord did not let their marriage and he made his daughter marry with another man in a cold winter day against her will. The shepherd and Zer decided to run away from the village but Zer got lost in the snowstorm and got frozen. When the shepherd learned that was the reason why she had not showed up the other day, he lost his mind. He started walking around from village to village with songs about his beloved Zer and his love for her. The movie Zer tells the story of Jan who was living in New York searching for the song of. While Jan was doing his search, he found himself in a magnificent geography, an authentic culture, colorful characters and traces of a massacre. İn that trip, he discover his grandmother Zarife’s secret of her life. TR Zer'in 30 Eylül 2018 Pazar günü Toronto'da ilk gösterimini yapacağız. Uğramış olduğu sansür ve dağıtım sorunlarına rağmen Kanada gösterimlerimizi sonunda gerçekleştirecek olmaktan dolayı mutluyuz. Gala gecesinde yönetmenimiz Kazım Öz bizlerle olacak. Zarife bugüne kadar bu şarkıda kimliğini ve geçmişini saklamıştır. Kanser tedavisi için New York’a getirildiğinde birbirlerini pek de tanımayan Jan ve babaannesi, bu tedavi sırasında yakınlaşırlar ve Jan’ın hayatı değişmeye başlar. Jan babaannesinin kendisine söylediği şarkının izini sürmeye karar verir. New York’tan Dersim’e bir arayış hikâyesine çıkan Jan yolun sonunda kendisine ulaşacak mıdır? Kazım Öz bu filmi ile bir büyüme hikâyesinin en ücra köşelerinde dâhi ışık olan yerler vardır diyor.
