A conversation about zen, compassion training, the life in the monastery, and how to bring the monastery to our daily life.
About this event
Engetsu Lefevre invites Onryu Mary Stares for a conversation about Zen, compassion training, the life in the Monastery and how we bring it for our daily life. If you are curious about zen or if you have been practicing for many years, we invite you for this conversation!
Onryu Mary Stares started her zen practice in Canada in 1999, and moved to the USA to receive training at San Francisco Zen Center. A carpenter by trade, Mary was ordained as a Zen priest in 2010 by Arlene Lueck and Myogen Steve Stücky at Green Gulch Farm. Mary was Shuso (Head Student) for the Winter 2015 Practice Period at Tassajara. She had served in many senior positions at Zen Center, both at Tassajara, the monastery in the mountains of Big Sur and at the Urban Monastery of City Center. She has been the Head Cook (Tenzo) of both centers, the director and the Head of Practice (Tanto) at City Center.
Engetsu Lefevre started her zen practice in Sao Paulo, Brazil in 2005 and in 2013 she started traveling and practicing in the US, Mexico and Central America. She lived at San Francisco Zen Center for 4 years, both at Tassajara and City Center. Now she is in Brazil where she was when the pandemic started and since she couldn return to the US she has been working the site/blog Entrezen where she shares her practicing and organizing events like this one.
