Event description

Description

Nourish your child's curiosity and creativity in this engaging arts-based STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) workshop series!

Each workshop in this series is unique and incorporates challenges and projects to teach fundamental concepts and skills across STEM subjects. We focus on hands-on, experiential learning, providing a holistic approach to education that includes soft skills, critical thinking, and building creative confidence. Your child will have access to a variety of tools and materials used in hobbyist and professional careers in STEM fields.

This workshop series is open to children and youth ages 7 and up.

Workshop Series Outline

Each workshop is tailored to the needs and interests of our students, so please note that this outline may change depending on student requests.

Workshop 1: Introduction to Design Thinking and Rapid Fabrication

In our first workshop, we will explore various methods for building quick, or "pretend" prototypes of our favorite ideas with a little help from the Stanford Design School's Design Thinking process.

Workshop 2: Take-Apart Tinkering

Take apart electronics to learn about all the bits and pieces that make up our favorite devices! We will work with simple tools, look for patterns, and use our findings to create new inventions.

Workshop 3: Crafting with Circuits

What’s better than arts and crafts? Arts and crafts with tiny lights! In this workshop, we’ll learn how to add lights to all sorts of materials, including paper, clothing, and more! Along the way, we’ll discover more about electricity, electronic circuits, and practice our Design Thinking process to help us expand the possibilities of what we can make for ourselves and for others.

Workshop 4: Robot Mini Golf

In our final workshop, we improve and expand our understanding of circuits and prototyping to design and build simple robots called Brush Bots that move by shaking. We'll harvest motors from electronic devices, then use our imagination, creativity, and Design Thinking to tackle obstacles, solve problems, and have a blast!
