Join us online for Spark Central's first Young Ambassadors camp!

<h3>YOUNG AMBASSADORS · Online Camp</h3><h3>FOUR-DAY CAMP · TUE AUG 25 - FRI AUG 28 · 10:00 AM - 11:15 AM</h3>GRADES 4-6 · Join us for a dive into the unsung histories and stories of Black, Indigenous, and communities of color that have too long been overlooked in our history books and in our shared cultural conversations. Youth will participate in a digital quest to discover for themselves the stories and triumphs of modern and historical figures. Then, they will take charge and retell the histories in their own words by creating written or visual art that represents the stories they would like to share. Kids will practice their hand at storytelling and be emboldened to see themselves as young ambassadors and future leaders in our community. This camp will be led by local artist Shantell Jackson.Participants will receive information on how to join us online in the days leading up to the camp. Registration is free thanks to community support.Please only register for Young Ambassadors if your child can attend all four camp days. The campers rely on each other and support one another to make the magic happen!ABOUT THE INSTRUCTORShantell is a Multimedia Artist currently residing in Spokane, WA by way of Buffalo, NY. Shantell works with various mediums in her visual art process, with a focus on ink drawings. Shantell has served in Higher Education for 15 years, as an administrator her focus was academic and multicultural programming. She also worked to create programs that helped college students understand self, others and how this understanding equips them to be global citizens. She currently serves on the education team for Spectrum Center, in which she facilitates training around LGBTQ+ Safe Spaces, Identity 101 and Allyship. Shantell also writes and performs original poetry at local spoken word events. Recently she has started focusing her creative process in electronic music.Shantell hopes to take all her disciplines to create installations and performance art pieces that explores the human condition contemporarily and historically, in order to create dialogue across difference, that will build bridges and forge acceptance, and healing.You can find her online at Shantellrj.comand on Instagram @ShantellReneJ--FAQsDo I have to register to come?Yes, you MUST register to come as playshops have a limited number of spots.How do I register my child? Do I have to register to come?Register via our Eventbrite page (if you&#x27;re reading this, then you&#x27;re in the right spot).Can I register if I&#x27;m not certain I can attend?Please only register if you know you will be there. We often have a full waitlist for our playshops, and every vacant seat is a missed learning opportunity for another family. If you or your child becomes ill unexpectedly after registering or has to miss a playshop session due to an emergency, please contact programs@spark-central.org.Can I sign up my child for a playshop if they don&#x27;t want to come? No. Spark Central playshops have two rules: (1) Everyone wants to be here; (2) Everyone is compassionate toward others. Playshops are not a spot to bring a child who does not want to participate. If a child is disrespectful, defiant, or harmful to others, they will not be permitted to participate in the program.What are my transport/parking options getting to the event?There is free two-hour parking behind the Spark Central in Kendall Yards. Free 90-minute street parking is also available. There is also a city bus stop available at the intersection of Summit and Monroe.Where can I contact the organizer with any questions or if I have to cancel?Contact programs@spark-central.org with questions or cancellations. Please let us know as soon as possible if you can&#x27;t make it, as playshops often have waiting lists and we want to give every child who wants to be here a chance to participate if possible.
