The Young Ohio Preservationists are hosting a takeover weekend in Toledo, Ohio June 20-22. Join the group for numerous Historic Architecture tours around the city of Toledo, a Historic Lighting Workshop, and a behind the scenes tour of the Toledo Museum of Art. We will be joined by experts in the preseravtion, architecture, and trades fields to lead us through the workshops and showcase Toledo preservation efforts. Registration is $100 and covers all of the events & tours, a project fixture to repair and take home from the Historic Lighting Workshop, coffee and pastries Saturday morning, and a box lunch on Saturday from the Original Sub Shop. Young professionals in the historic preservation field are encouraged to attend, but all are welcome. We look forward to seeing you there!

Special room rates will be available at the rehabilitated Hotel Royal for attendees. Rooms are limited and open on a first come, first serve basis. Other accommodation recommendations include the Hilton Garden Inn Toledo Downtown which is located nearby the Hotel Royal. Happy Hour Pub Crawl

Join us for an informal pub crawl through the Toledo Warehouse District, and enjoy the adaptive reuse of some of the oldest remaining buildings in Downtown. Anchored by the Toledo Mud Hens Stadium, this National Register Historic District features mixed-use properties from the 1870s-1900s.


Saturday, June 21st

Historic Lighting Workshop

Learn how to rewire early 20th century brass pan ceiling light fixtures, from cleaning the fixture, replacing the sockets, and choosing the correct wire for your project. Participants will each receive a project fixture to repair and take home. Expert tradespersons from Gross Electric will lead the workshop, with assistance from Hotel Royal owner, Erin Claussen, and Heritage Ohio Director, Matt Wiederhold. (registration fee covers fixture, materials, and tools)

Lunch and Learn with Erin Claussen, Developer, Hotel Royal

Enjoy a box lunch from the venerable Original Sub Shop in Toledo, and learn from Erin Claussen of Toledo Revival, and her passion to purchase and restore the historic Hotel Royal in the historic Toledo Middlegrounds.


Afternoon:

Take a hike with Thomas Porter Architects, and tour several Warehouse District renovation and historic tax credit projects, including Barber-Ferris Produce Building, The Sunkist Building, the Okun Produce Building, and get a sneak peek at the massive Erie Street Market Reimagination.


Evening:

6pm Ostrich Towne is an emerging foodie and arts district in Vistula, one of the original Toledo neighborhoods, just east of downtown. Take a tour of the recently renovated Westminster Church, then enjoy an evening of great food and libations.

Libbey House guided tour of this National Historic Landmark.

Built in 1895, it was the home of Edward Drummond Libbey, a businessman who revolutionized the glassmaking industry.
