Program Description

Join us for our Annual Financing and M&A Outlook conference. Some life science sectors have seen significant disruption during the pandemic, others have experienced an upsurge in demand. However, life sciences companies will continue to thrive thanks to market demand and demographics.

Gabriele Brambilla, Chief Executive Officer, Alira Health

Gabriele Brambilla was appointed Alira Health’s Chief Executive Officer in 2014 and has led U.S. operations since 2010. In his role as CEO, Gabriele continues to develop Alira Health’s corporate and product lifecycle capabilities and help our clients to accelerate their innovation.

In 2018 he co-founded the MetroWest Life Sciences Network, a regional collaboration of healthcare and life science-based organizations, municipalities, and economic and business development organizations located in Boston’s MetroWest region, which is home to Alira Health’s headquarters. His work as the Chairman of this thriving network is helping to bring greater collaboration, innovation, and entrepreneurship to this critical life sciences ecosystem. Gabriele is also on the Board of Directors of EnlightenVue, WoundForce, Firefly, and Computational Life. In 2019, Gabriele was named Business Leader of the Year by the MetroWest Chamber of Commerce.

Gabriele began his career in pharmaceuticals, working for an Italian firm based in Shanghai. He has also gained strong expertise in the medical device areas, specifically with contract manufacturing, fluid management, medical imaging, and infection control.

Gabriele received his BA in Political Science from the University of Pavia, a master’s degree in International Affairs from the I.S.P.I., and an MBA from Post Graduate SDA Bocconi in Milan, Italy.

James Eadie, M.D., Partner, Santé Ventures

James joined Santé Ventures in 2009 and is an emergency medicine physician.

Before joining Santé, James served in the Air Force and was Vice-Chair of Emergency Medicine at Wilford Hall Medical Center, an academic level-one trauma center. He completed two tours in Iraq as a Critical Care Transport Team Chief and Emergency Department Commander, before separating honorably as a Major in 2008.

James is an Oversight Committee member for the University of Michigan’s Michigan Translational Research & Commercialization program, an early-stage granting body for life science companies. He is also a Mentor in the Coulter Program at Michigan and a Board Member of the Michigan Center for Integrative Research in Critical Care.

James is board-certified in emergency medicine and completed his residency at Massachusetts General Hospital and Brigham and Women’s Hospital. He earned his MD from the Harvard–MIT Program in Health Sciences and Technology (HST), his MBA from the University of Texas McCombs School of Business, and his BS in bioengineering, Summa Cum Laude, from the University of Michigan.

Brian Johnson, President, Massachusetts Medical Device Industry Council (MassMEDIC)

Brian Johnson is the President of MassMEDIC, a trade association for the health technology space in Massachusetts, which helps preserve a healthy ecosystem for a vital industry.

Brian is an experienced media entrepreneur, publisher, author, and advocate with a demonstrated history of building meaningful brands in the online news space, which have been enjoyed by millions of readers worldwide. He is the founder of MassDevice.com, the DeviceTalks conference in 2011, and launched Medical Design & Outsourcing magazine in 2015.

He is a strong advocate for startups and founders.

Bruce C. Robertson, Ph.D., Managing Director, H.I.G. Capital

Bruce Robertson is a Managing Director at H.I.G. Capital, a $40 billion global private equity firm, where he is the co-head of H.I.G.’s dedicated healthcare fund, H.I.G. BioHealth Partners. Bruce currently serves on the boards of Apollo Endosurgery, RxSight, CardioFocus, Clarus Therapeutics, Exagen, and Iconic Therapeutics.

Bruce has been active in the life sciences sector for more than 30 years. Before joining H.I.G., Bruce was a partner in two prior private equity firms. Before his private equity career, Bruce was Director of Business Development at IGEN International, where he was responsible for formulating and implementing IGEN's partnering and M&A strategies. Bruce started his career as a Research Manager at W.R. Grace & Co., focusing on medical devices.

Bruce holds a BSE in Chemical Engineering and a BA in Mathematics from the University of Pennsylvania, a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Delaware, and an MBA with High Distinction from Harvard Business School.

Bernhard Sakmann is a Senior Managing Director in Evercore’s corporate advisory business. Dr. Sakmann has spent over 18 years in Healthcare Investment Banking and management consulting, focusing on Medical Technology, Tools, and Diagnostics companies. He began his career at Oliver Wyman and after that joined Lehman Brothers’ Healthcare Investment Banking group in New York. After that, he was with Citigroup’s Healthcare Investment Banking group in New York and London before joining Evercore in 2014.

Dr. Sakmann has been involved in advising companies and private equity firms across a variety of healthcare subsectors. Selected transactions include advising ArcherDXon its sale to Invitae, Terumo on its acquisitions of Sequent Medical and Bolton Medical, Brooks Automation on its acquisitions of Genewiz and Biostorage Solutions, and Abbott on its acquisitions of St Jude Medical and Alere, among many others.

Dr. Sakmann received a Doctorate in Medicine from Ludwig-Maximilians-University, Munich, Germany, a B.M. BCh. from Oxford University, UK, and a B.A. and an M.A. in Natural Sciences from Cambridge University, UK.
