More about Yala Lati Women's Choir

Yala Lati is a sisterhood of women’s voices rising to praise life and bless the world. We sing beautiful, uplifting songs and transcendent harmonies from various artists and traditions that invoke the power of love, unity among all people, and reverence for all life. We are devoted to empowering women’s voices, uplifting women’s lives, and building a strong, vibrant community here in Santa Cruz.

We’ve been offering Spring and Winter concerts since the year 2005, and almost every show has been a sell-out! We also love to sing at community events, marches, rallys, spiritual centers, and benefit concerts. Over the years we’ve offered our loving hearts and harmonious voices to the women at our local jail, and have given thousands of dollars to local organizations that care for people and the planet. We feel especially blessed that we had the great honor of singing before the International Council of 13 Indigenous Grandmothers for their 7th council meeting in Sedona, Arizona. In addition, we are the beautiful voices you hear on Heather’s “Sisters of the Moon” album!

About Our Director, Heather Houston:

Heather Houston is passionate about uplifting hearts, freeing voices, transforming lives, and building strong, loving communities through the power of singing. She spreads her magic through her 30+years of international song circle leading, private vocal coaching, and her online offerings - The Art of Mindful Singing, S.H.E. Sings, Singing as Sanctuary, and Sisters in Harmony Song and Chant Leader Training. You can now join her every Monday night on Zoom for a 2-hour Sisters in Harmony Global community song circle with guest artists!

Heather recently released her second solo album, Sisters of the Moon, which features the ethereal voices of her 40-voice women’s choir Yala Lati. Her first solo album, Prayers for the Water is a ZMR Top 10 album. You can find Heather’s music and her a cappella group SIRENZ on all of the streaming platforms and for download on her website.

Heather is one of the featured song circle leaders at the annual Singing on the Edge retreat at the Esalen Institute, Song Village in the Santa Cruz Mountains, SongFest in Los Angeles and Sacred Sound Meets Sacred Nature retreat at Pema Osel Ling. Her most recent passion is curating annual Women’s Singing Retreats in the Santa Cruz Mountains. Her next retreat will be held in the Summer of 2024.
