Kids ages 2-5 select a pedal car provided by local merchants and race 500 inches down Ballard Avenue in heats of seven in historic downtown Wylie.

The $15 entry fee includes a T-shirt and ribbon. Winners receive trophies in two age brackets (2-3; 4-5). Proceeds benefit area Special Olympics and historic downtown Wylie beautification.

Spots are limited, so register today. This is a rain-or-shine event.

The Wylie 500 Pedal Car Race in historic downtown Wylie is presented by the Wylie Downtown Merchants Association, City of Wylie and Ballard Street Cafe.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I park?

Parking is available in and around the Historic Downtown area and in the church parking lots. Please keep in mind that the 100 block of Ballard will be shut down for the race. Please utilize Google Maps to locate parking areas.

What time should I get there?

Ages 2-3, Check-in 1:00 pm; Races start at 2:00 pm (please arrive no later than 1:45 pm) Ages 4-5, Check-in any time between 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm; Races start at 3:00 pm

What does each child get for the entry fee?

Every child receives a t-shirt and race ribbon for the $15 entry fee. Every child is guaranteed to race in one of the heats of seven. The top three winners in each age group receive a trophy.

When I arrive, where do I go?

Look for the check-in/registration tent, which should be located just south of the race track (across from Ballard Street Cafe).

Can my child practice in a pedal car?

YES! The pedal cars will be available to practice in the practice area just north of the race track to learn how to steer and pedal the cars.

May I bring my own pedal car?

No. Pedal cars are provided by local merchants.

Will there be someone available to help my racer?

Yes! There are many volunteers for this event. Parents are encouraged to cheer their racer from the sidelines and then meet up with them at the finish line.

May I push my racer on the track?

For safety reasons, we have onsite volunteers who will assist your racer in getting into their car and down the track. The best photo ops will be from the sidelines. Please do not enter the track area. The track area is reserved for the racers and the onsite volunteers.

How long is the track?

The track is a short 500 in. (41.6 ft)

What heat will my child be in?

Racers are randomly placed in heats of seven based on age range. Bracket boards will be displayed the day of the event for each age group. Winners from each race will move on to the semifinals and finals. These names will be posted and announced by the DJ.

How will the kids be grouped?

Races are grouped by age range, 2-3 year olds and 4-5 year olds. Kids will race in heats of approximately seven, with the winner of each heat moving on to semi-final heats and then finals.

Will there be ATMs on-site?

There is an ATM at the Northside Grocer, Inwood National Bank, and American National Bank (across 78).

Will it be hot?

Yes, it is May in Texas! Sunscreen and hats are advisable.

What if it rains?

This event is rain or shine.

Is there anything to do before or after the race?

Take the opportunity to enjoy the Wylie Historic District. There are many wonderful shops and good eats open on Sunday. Be sure to check their websites for times on Sunday.
