What grosses you out? What makes you furious, and what terrifies you?
Do you avoid writing about these topics in your poetry or prose? If so, you’re missing out on a powerful component of your writer skillset, one that can open new channels of creative expression you never knew existed.
This 2-hour workshop will offer exercises, discussion time, and generative writing prompts to help you start to move past your aversions and begin to harness the power of uncomfortable imagery for your writing projects.
YOUR INSTRUCTOR:
Originally from Ontario, Canada, LOREN WALKER has been nominated twice for the Pushcart Prize and chosen as a finalist for the Luminare Poetry Award, the Beulah Rose Poetry Contest, and the Harbor Review Editor’s Prize. Loren has also received fellowships from Looking Glass Rock, StoryStudio, and Lambda Literary. Loren’s poems have appeared in Sierra Nevada Review, Quarter Press, Revolute, Free State Review, and other publications. Loren has published two poetry chapbooks: viscerous by The Offending Adam, and neverheart by Dancing Girl Press, and creates and sells micro-chapbooks on Etsy.
This workshop aspires to be a safe space for creative concentration, informed by Felicia Rose Chavez’s book The Anti-Racist Writing Workshop. As a neurodivergent and queer writer, Loren welcomes both LBGTQA+ writers and writers who may require physical or emotional breaks, open stimming, or any other accommodations that have affected participation in other writing workshops.
