Hasshan Batts,is a survivor, healer, son, father and friend.  Batts holds a Master degree in Social Work and is scheduled to complete his Doctorate in Health Sciences in June 2017. Batts is an experienced life coach, consultant, and trainer and is recognized nationally as an expert in the fields of trauma-informed care, and restorative practices.www.coachbatts.comShanita Hubbard is a student of motherhood, a passionate social justice advocate, and writer. Her passion for social justice stems from a personal understanding of how families of color are disproportionally impacted by mass incarceration. This passion has been translated into action in the form of a diverse, justice centered career. From working as a therapist for youth on probation, operating job readiness programs for formally incarcerated adults, directing youth alternative-to-incarceration programs, grant writing, and now a Criminal Justice Ethics Professor, Shanita continues to find creative ways to combat social injustice. Her creativity is also displayed via writing. Her writing is featured in The Root, EBONY Magazine, Abernathy Magazine, The Huffington Post and other publications.

Lovers of words write when they feel inspired. For writers, the act of writing is the inspiration. The title of "writer" isn’t exclusive to those in the publishing world. In fact, the power to bestow that title resides in YOU. Do you call yourself a writer? Cool, I’ll call you that too. Here’s a free tip, the world typically responds to what you call yourself. Want another free tip? The difference between a dream and a goal is the work you put in to achieve it. If you have goals that include taking your writing to the next level, then you have to put the work in! This writing workshop provides practical strategies that will empower you with the following: 1) Learning how to create and smash realistic writing goals. You can be a professional dreamer, or you can actually complete your goals 2) An accountability system that works for YOU 3) How to let your guard down in writing while using your unique “voice.” Free tip number three, you can be masterful in your subject matter but unable to connect with your audience. Readers connect with the writer. Let us teach you how 4) An understanding of how to use writing to heal emotional wounds The workshop will be divided into two sections to meet the individual needs of participants. The first section will consist of points 1 and 2. All attendees will be present for the first section. The second section will be divided by participant interest. If you’re hungry to understand more about using writing to support healing from emotional trauma, then you will register for the section entitled: "Writing as a Healing Art." If your goal is to learn how to use your writing voice and let your guard down you will register for the section entitled “Getting Naked.” Registration for specific sections will occur promptly at 9:00 am. PLEASE BRING A LAPTOP, NOTEBOOK OR WHATEVER YOU USE FOR WRITING
