WORKSHOP: Marek's - San Gimignano in Ink with Two Colours!
A warm color, a cool color and some Ink, ... and that's it? Incredible!!!
March 20, 2022 *
In this class, you will create artwork in ink and watercolour using the attached photo of San Gimignano as base and inspiration; you will learn how to correct photo elements that can be improved upon, establish clear values, ink lines using waterproof ink, then paint in watercolour using mainly two colours. You will produce a final artwork characterized by a pleasant composition, logical values, and harmonized colours. And, of course, I hope you’ll have fun doing that!
We will analyze and deconstruct photo to identify issues related to:
- Composition: what can be modified to make elements “work better” with each other? This includes moving, removing, adding, shortening, lengthening etc.
- Values: what are the predominant values? What values need to be strengthened? This will be addressed by quick thumbnail sketches, in pencil.
Once composition issues are corrected and value as are adjusted, we will proceed to:
- Inking lines: I will be using a Fude fountain pen, but any fountain/dip nib pen will do
- Painting watercolour: I will be using limited palette of mainly two colours: Burnt Sienna & French Ultramarine. Additional colours can be added to small details and focal area. Opaque white to be used for highlights.
* NOTE: Save your receipt it has the login info you'll need and the materials list.
