Outdoor Class: Hike and Shoot

This super fun outdoor class is designed to help you brush up on your photography skills "on the go." We will go on a morning hike at one of the most beautiful locations in Palos Verdes. Your spouses and children are welcome to join in on the fun (I will most likely we "wearing" my 9 month old daughter Dylan! *seen above as a surprise guest at my last class*). As we hike we will take photos, go over some photography principles and lessons, and I will give feedback on the photos you are capturing in that moment so that you can improve your skill!** So join us to talk photography, make some new friends, get some cute photos, and have the best Sunday with your family!

**Note: a basic knowledge of how to use your DSLR and change exposure is recommended. If you own a DSLR and have no idea how to operate it in manual mode, please consider taking my Photography Basics for Moms class first!

FAQs

What does it cost?

$50 per family- this includes the class instruction and a few professional photos of your family by Jessica Hickerson, and we will be providing water bottles

What do I need to bring to the class?

Your DSLR camera + your family + hiking shoes

Wait, do I need to be a mom to take this class?

Nope- you do not have to be a parent to take this class! Individuals, "dog parents*," moms to be, and anyone else that wants to learn how to use their DSLR to take great photos while out and about are more than welcome to join!

*leashed, well-behaved dogs are welcome to join- but make sure someone other than the photographer can hold the leash!

What time should I arrive?

We will meet and chat at 9am, then begin the hike 9:15am. Parking can be a little tricky so I would recommend arriving 10 minutes early.

Is it a difficult hike?

In my opinion this is a fairly easy hike. We are not doing the entire trail but instead going about a mile down and back. More info here: https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/california/paintbrush-trail-to-portugese-bend 

What if the weather sucks?

If we happen to have bad weather that makes hiking not possible, the event will be rescheduled. All weather-related announcements or changes will be communicated via email and the Facebook Group.
