Workshop di Vetro // Glass Workshop

🇮🇹 Partendo da una panoramica storica sul vetro come materiale e sull’antica tecnica della vetrofusione, il workshop di vetro tenuto da Giordano Benvenuto ha come obiettivo quello di trasmettere le principali tecniche di vetrofusione.

Grazie all’uso di smalti minerali e ossidi metallici, si otterranno fantasie a tema micro e macrocosmo. Propedeutico alla realizzazione del manufatto finale, verrà approfondito lo studio della progettazione degli artefatti, il loro sviluppo grafico e tecnico, i vari sistemi di produzione, l’uso dei materiali e degli strumenti di lavorazione del vetro e infine l’utilizzo del forno.

Il workshop ha una durata di tre giorni, da venerdì 12 Luglio fino a Domenica 14 Luglio.
Durante i primi due giorni si alterneranno lezioni teoriche a momenti pratici di lavorazione del vetro e degli smalti. La terza giornata sarà invece dedicata all’apertura del forno di cottura, in cui vedremo venire alla luce il lavoro compiuto precedentemente e discuteremo insieme i risultati. Al termine del workshop, ogni partecipante porterà a casa con sè il manufatto prodotto durante i 3 giorni di workshop.

Le lezioni di venerdì 12 Luglio e sabato 13 Luglio inizieranno alle 10 e termineranno alle 18, con una pausa pranzo dalle 13 alle 14. La lezione di Domenica 14 Luglio avrà invece luogo dalle 10 alle 13. Il workshop ha una durata totale di 17 ore.

Tutti i materiali e gli strumenti necessari alla parte pratica del Corso verranno messi a disposizione da Cave Contemporary. Sono consigliati indumenti comodi o da lavoro. Il workshop di vetro tenuto da Giordano Benvenuto prevede un numero massimo di 18 partecipanti. Vi è la possibilità di vitto e alloggio presso Hotel de Ville durante il weekend del workshop.

TUTOR:

Giordano Benvenuto nasce a Treviso nel 1996. Figlio d'arte, porta avanti la tradizione del vetro da due generazioni. È un Mastro Vetraio che ha lavorato in più ambiti artistici e che ha sperimentato diverse tecniche di lavorazione del vetro, fino a specializzarsi nella vetrofusione.
La sua ricerca si incentra sui concetti di microcosmo e macrocosmo, cuocendo i propri manufatti su diversi stampi che incide a mano, incorporando smalti particolari e minerali all'interno del vetro.
Le texture realizzate da Giordano Benvenuto richiamano forme simili a microorganismi – come batteri o germi visti al microscopio – acque stagnanti e licheni.

🇺🇸 Starting from a historical overview of glass as a material and the ancient technique of glass fusing, the glass workshop run by Giordano Benvenuto aims to convey the principal glass fusing techniques.

By utilizing mineral glazes and metal oxides, micro and macrocosm-themed patterns will be created. Preliminary to the realization of the final artifact, an in-depth study will be made of the design of the artifacts, their graphic and technical development, the various production systems, the use of materials and tools for glass processing, and ultimately the use of the kiln.

Glass Workshop lasts three days: from Friday, July 12, until Sunday, July 14.
During the first two days, theoretical lectures will alternate with practical moments of working with glass and glazes. On the other hand, the third day will be dedicated to the opening of the firing kiln, where we will observe the work previously accomplished come to light and discuss the results together. At the end of the workshop, participants will take home with them the artifact produced during the 3-day workshop.

The classes on Friday, July 12, and Saturday, July 13, will begin at 10 a.m. and end at 6 p.m., with a lunch break from 1 to 2 p.m. The class on Sunday, July 14, will instead take place from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. The workshop has a total duration of 17 hours.

All materials and tools needed for the practical part of the Workshop will be provided by Cave Contemporary. Comfortable or work clothes are recommended. The glass workshop held by Giordano Benvenuto allows for a maximum of 18 participants. There is the possibility of accommodation and meals at Hotel de Ville during the workshop weekend.

TUTOR:

Giordano Benvenuto is born in Treviso in 1996. He comes from a family of artists and has continued the tradition of glass-making for two generations. He is a Mastro Vetraio who has worked in multiple artistic fields and has experimented with different glassmaking techniques, eventually specializing in glass fusing.

He carries out peculiar research on the concepts of microcosm and macrocosm, firing his artifacts on different molds that he engraves by hand, incorporating particular glazes and minerals inside the glass.

The textures created by Giordano Benvenuto recall shapes similar to microorganisms - such as bacteria or germs as seen under a microscope -stagnant waters and lichens.
