Inspired to compost, but not sure where to start? Join us for a hands-on workshop to learn how our farm uses compost to build healthy soil that produces flavorful, nutrient-dense food.. and how you can, too!
During this workshop, our Farm Team will guide you to a few spots around the farm for an in-depth look at and information about all the ways ALF composts:
- Check in at the regenerative market garden, where you'll meet your guides and group
- Gain a big-picture view of how ALF approaches farming within an integrated ecosystem, focuses on healthy soil, and generates fertility from within.
- Learn how to build healthy soil, the role of worms & microbes, and the parallels between soil health and gut health
- Stop by the lemon orchard to check out our hot compost piles & windrows. You'll learn about the natural process of composting and how exactly food scraps transform into fertile, nutrient-rich soil when given the proper, harmonious conditions.
- Dig into our 40 foot worm composting bin and compost tea brewing tanks. You'll gain an in-depth understanding of our farm's vermicompost program, and how you can utilize worms to break down food scraps on a small scale at home.
- Gain hands-on experience building a backyard composts pile
- The workshop ends with a comprehensive 1 hour walking tour of the farm
