Workshop by Beetroot: Typography for Jazz & beyond (registration required)
Jazz posters fuse art and music, with typography echoing each genre’s rhythm—swinging, raw, or polished-to embody its spirit.
Saturday 11/10/25 - 10:00 - 13:00
Graphic Design Lab (Heroes Square) - Cyprus University of Technology
Workshop: Typography for Jazz and beyond
Υiannis Charalampopoulos - https://www.beetroot.gr/
Jazz posters are a vibrant testament to the intertwined relationship between visual art and music, often featuring custom-made typography that is as expressive and improvisational as the music itself. Under the sounds of jazz, typography on these posters frequently mirrors the genre's fluidity and syncopation, with letterforms that might swing, stretch, or break apart, embodying the rhythm and spontaneous nature of a live performance. This bespoke approach extends beyond jazz, with each genre—be it the rebellious edge of rock, the raw power of metal, or the polished choreography of K-pop—inspiring unique typographic expressions that are custom-made to capture its particular spirit and resonate with its audience.
Workshop participants are kindly requested to bring a personal laptop. Adobe Creative Suite tools will be used in the workshop. The use of headphones is also recommended. Additionally, it may be beneficial to have paper and markers available for those who wish to engage in preliminary sketching activities.
Please note that both the workshop and the afternoon lectures will be conducted in Greek.
