During this interactive, discussion-based workshop, participants will:
- gain an understanding of what it means to be a human-centered, people-centered institution, and how this shift in mindset can be foundational to centering community and audience
- learn about the difference between an asset-based approach and a needs-based approach to community involvement and participation
- examine models of community involvement, audience participation, and co-creation, understanding how these models can help guide a community-centered practice
- explore selected examples of community-centered museums & libraries as well as key exemplary programs, to see what this looks like in action
- engage with colleagues in working sessions geared to applying community-centered strategies to each department’s work and planning
- develop strategies and actions that can be implemented as part of the institution’s ongoing planning and programming
