WORKSHOP: So You Wanna Learn To Hack?
~## Synopsis
Explore the fundamentals of network penetration testing in an immersive workshop! Delve into the art of identifying, assessing, and potentially breaching vulnerable systems in a safe environment. Gain expertise in basic network reconnaissance methods and put your skills to the test as you penetrate a susceptible device under the guidance of a seasoned cybersecurity professional.
This workshope is centered around using basic nmap scripts to find local devices that are vulnerable to attack. A simple tutorial and instruction will be given regarding nmap and metasploit to aid the students in finding and compromising a device. A simple demo using a box will be used by the instructor and then the students will have to go and re-do the same box. There will be 1-3 other hidden devices also advertised each with a simple vulnerability that can be identified with nmap and exploited with metasploit.
~## Workshop Requirements
- Suitable for children aged 10 and up with no prior experience required
- Bring Your Own Laptop. Windows or MacOS laptop may be used, however windows laptops are preferred
- Laptop should be newer and able to sustain a virtual environment. This laptop should have at least the equivalent of an Intel i5 CPU with at least 8gb of RAM, and 100gb of disk space free. - For Windows or Intel MacOS devices the following software should be downloaded and installed prior to attendance:
- Windows OS - VMware Workstation Player Downloaded and Installed.
- Intel MacOS - Vmware Fusion Player Downloaded and Installed. You will need to sign-up for an account and be issued a free personal use license
- Kali - VMware Downloaded
- A note regarding silicon (M1/M2/M3) based MacOS - This type of laptop and operating system is NOT ADVISED and requires a more advanced user both for installation and usage. Please use either a Windows OS or Intel MacOs.
