Workshop: Acrylic Painting- Floral Still Life

Our Art in the Garden Series continues with acrylics.

NHG proudly welcomes professional artist and popular teacher Melanie Brannan, whose series of acrylic workshops feature a different inspirational piece of art each time that you'll reproduce. In this series, you'll have the opportunity to learn about new colors and techniques in each class you attend.

Are you ready for a colorful, happy painting experience in the NHG Classroom? We’re going to create an expressive floral still life using bold, fluorescent colors with Golden’s Fluid Acrylic paint. Mel loves this process because it’s the opposite process of how she paints her contemporary landscapes. We will work from a AI created photograph with lilies and roses. After painting our 16 x 20" canvas black, we will chalk in a very rough sketch of our composition. Then we’ll start painting the shadows and gradually add midtones, highlights and details. This workshop leaves lots of room for individual expression. We will keep our palettes bright and bold with turquoise, green gold, magenta, fluorescent pink and oranges. Patterned stencils will be provided for more graphic detail. Mel will teach this process, and she encourages personal exploration with colors, composition and patterns. All supplies are included and all levels are welcome, from beginners to advanced.

Melanie is a Certified Educator for Golden Artist Colors and has collectors across the country.

$85. All supplies are included. In order to have the best in one-on-one instruction, our workshop is limited to 21 attendees. Arrive by 1:00pm, purchase a beverage, wine, or snacks from our next-door Cafe and be seated in our Classroom. Instruction starts promptly at 1:30!

Melanie Montgomery Brannan lives in her paintings, moving around and getting lost in a serene place. With her creative talent, she captures emotions on canvas as her paintings evolve through her own personal perspective. Influenced by light, clouds and reflections, she uses layers upon layers to create a great deal of depth and movement. Colors and perception beautifully touch her work. Melanie paints with her heart as much as her brush. Her favorite style of art is impressionism, with Cezanne and Van Gogh among her favorite artists.

Melanie moved to fine art and teaching after a long, prolific career in graphic design owning her own firm for 30 years. She has devoted collectors across the country and is represented by San Francisco Street Gallery in Santa Fe, NM and Horses in Motion Gallery in Tubac, AZ. Melanie has painted exclusively with GOLDEN Artists Colors since 2008. In 2017, GOLDEN trained her to become a certified educator for their amazing line of paints, pastes and gels. She joined this elite group of international artists to become the Dallas Educator for GOLDEN.
