Workshop #2 - Cake & Cupcake Baking Lab
It’s part experiment, part tasting lab, and part guided kitchen session, designed to make baking feel approachable.
In this hands-on baking lab, you’ll mix and bake your own cake and/or cupcakes while exploring how ingredient ratios, mixing methods, and substitutions affect texture and richness. We’ll compare pre-made cake samples, test flavor pairings, create a cake filling, and break down what makes a cake moist, light, and decadent. You will leave with cake and the confidence to recreate it at home. Participants take home cupcakes and have the option to bake a cake to frost for the buttercream workshop.
Light snacks and beverages provided (we will also be taste-testing baked goods).

Session Length: Approximately 2.5-2.75 hours
By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
- Select appropriate cake formulas based on desired texture (dense, fluffy, moist).
- Adjust ingredient ratios to accommodate allergen-safe substitutions.
- Execute proper cake mixing and baking techniques.
- Evaluate cake quality using structural and sensory indicators.
- Create one cake filling and evaluate cake flavor pairings
