About this event

****This is a women-identifying only hike****

For this adventure, we will be summiting the 3rd highest peak in Southern California. This hike brings you to the highest point in LA at 10,064 feet. With almost 4000 feet of climbing, it's a tough yet popular hike, and well worth the effort. You can see from the Pacific Ocean all the way to Mojave on a clear day.

The trail ascends the southwest side of the mountain and is the shortest route to the top that does not involve the use of a ski lift. Expect an aggressive climb for most of the hike but rewarded by views over San Antonio Canyon. Halfway up the mountain, the trail passes a Sierra Club Ski Hut that makes a good resting point.

Once we get to the peak, which takes roughly 4 miles to reach, we will take an hour break to replenish ourselves and enjoy the majestic views. From atop of Mt San Antonio you can see most of the better-known peaks in Southern California, including Cucamonga Peak, the distinctive saddleback mountains (Santiago and Modjeska peaks) in Orange County; Mt. San Jacinto, and San Gorgonio.

Once we've had our fill of the views – and our lunch – we'll head back down a different route through the Devil's Backbone Trail to form an impressive 11.3 mile loop of Mt. Baldy.

This trail is an 11.3-mile "out and back" with roughly 4000 feet of elevation gain. It is rated HARD. We recommend only experienced peak hikers or hikers who have trained for high peaks attempt this trail. We will be taking this hike slow with frequent breaks but if you are not ready or prepared to attempt this hike, we will ask you to turn around.

There are no reliable water sources on this trail as we will be ascending away from the valley, so please plan on carrying your entire days supply of water with you.

**Trail Information:

  • Distance: 11.3 miles
  • Elevation Gain: 4000ft
  • Difficulty: HARD

**Hike is subject to change due to weather and changing trail conditions
