Women's Equality Support Group

"Awake Deborah"is the ministry of Helga and Bob Edwards.  Helga and Bob have been married since 1988.  They have been Therapists and Public Speakers since 1996.  Both have Bachelor's degrees in Religious Education and Social Development Studies, as well as Master's degrees in Social Work.  In 2013, they each received the Delta Epsilon Chi Award for Intellectual Achievement, Christian Character and Leadership Ability, from the Association for Biblical Higher Education.  Their hope is to use the gifts and training that God has given them to help people experience freedom, forgiveness, love and wholeness in their lives and relationships.

Helga Edwards MSW and Bob Edwards MSW will be co-leading an education and peer-support group for women, based on the second half of their book entitled, "The Equality Workbook: Freedom in Christ from the Oppression of Patriarchy.”  Their hope is to help women discover that they do indeed bear the image of God, that they are loved and valued, and that in Christ they are called to function according to their gifts, not according to stereotypical gender roles.

Location: Hope Fellowship Church, 25 Benjamin Road, The St. Jacobs Outlet Mall, 2nd Floor, Waterloo, ON N2V 2G8 (approximately one hour west of Toronto)
Dates: Monday July 24th to Friday July 28th, 2017
Times: Morning Sessions: 10am – 12 pm, Afternoon Sessions: 1:30-3:00pm, 3:30-5:00pm
On Thursday, there will be only one session from 3:30-5:00pm so people can enjoy the famous St. Jacob's Farmer's Market and other attractions in the area. (The market is open on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays.)
Planned session topics include: Recovering from Shame Messages, The Grief Process, Freedom from Codependence, Setting Healthy Boundaries, Rebuilding Self-Esteem, Stress-Management, etc.
The group will include a brief overview of the first half of “The Equality Workbook,” explaining how Christianity became confused with patriarchy (the rule of men), and how this cultural bias has influenced both Bible translation and commentary.

There will be a limited number of workbooks available to purchase for $20.00 on the first day of the group.
This is a support group (education and peer-support); it is not psychotherapy.

Food: There is a Food Court in the outlet mall, and there are numerous restaurants within walking distance of the church.
Attractions: The famous <A HREF="https://stjacobs.com/Farmers-Market-General-Information.htm" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">St. Jacob’s Farmer's Market</A> is across the street, with an <A HREF="http://waterloocentralrailway.com/" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">old-fashioned train</A> available to take passengers on a 15 minute train ride to the picturesque <A HREF="https://stjacobs.com/The-Village-General-Information.htm" TARGET="_blank" DATA-MSYS-CLICKTRACK="0" REL="nofollow noopener noreferrer">Village of St. Jacob's</A>, which has lovely shops and places to eat.
